Pimax Crystal Super Proves Its Mettle with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 has been put to the test in a VR setting, using the Pimax Crystal Super headset. The goal was to convince a flat-screen user that VR is ready for mainstream use, especially when it comes to complex and resource-hungry airliners like the Airbus A321 by Fenix.
The test pilot, an experienced airliner enthusiast, started with a scenic flight around Japan in a Cessna 172 and then moved on to a more complex exploration-focused joyride in Jurassic World: Archipelago. However, it was only when they took control of the Airbus A321 that things got really interesting.
The pilot's first experience with an airliner in VR was unscripted and unrehearsed. They flew from Hiroshima Airport to Tokyo Haneda International Airport, using a brand-new rendition by Technobrain. The result was impressive, with the pilot feeling immersed and distracted from their task at hand.
The landing, however, was not without its challenges. The pilot felt that it was a bit hard and needed to adjust the point of view on the flight deck further. But overall, they were impressed by the experience and could see themselves flying around airliners more in VR with practice.
