Pinterest appoints Amazon exec James Dibbo as new CFO
Pinterest has announced that James Dibbo, a former finance executive from Amazon, will take over as the company's new chief financial officer. Starting on October 26, Dibbo will replace Julia Donnelly, who will leave the company on October 30 to join a private, early-stage firm. Dibbo, aged 56, previously led finance teams at Amazon for divisions such as Ads, Prime Video, and Amazon MGM Studios.
Pinterest CEO Bill Ready expressed enthusiasm about the appointment, highlighting Dibbo's experience in managing large-scale global businesses and building strong teams. Ready also noted that Dibbo's understanding of consumer experience, shopping, advertising, and technology aligns well with Pinterest's needs. Following the announcement, Pinterest shares rose about 1% in extended trading.
The market reaction suggests that investors view this leadership change as routine rather than a significant event. Analysts speculate that Pinterest stock may remain focused on broader issues, such as ad growth, which remains a critical area for the company. Although Pinterest has seen a 5x increase in clicks to advertisers over three years, revenue has not kept pace.
Pinterest reported strong financials for Q2, with revenue reaching $1.18 billion, up 18%, and monthly active users hitting a record 640 million. However, the company faces challenges, including a tough ad market with competitors like Instagram and Facebook, and slower revenue growth expected in Q3 at 13% to 15%. Investors will be watching to see how Dibbo performs in his new role and whether his experience at Amazon can help bridge the gap between user engagement and revenue.
