Pixel 11 Locks Out Older Models: Google's Rambler Dictation Tool Unavailable on Some Phones

Oluwaniyi Raji, a tech content specialist, tested Google's Pixel 11 lock-in issue on his own phone. He found that Rambler, a dictation tool, was not available on his older model, despite meeting the requirements listed by Google.

Rambler requires an active internet connection to access its full set of features, which includes rewrites and conversational voice edits. Without a connection, it handles basic cleanup, punctuation, and capitalization only.

Wispr Flow, a third-party app, offered a similar dictation experience on Raji's Pixel 10, running Android 13 or newer. The app allowed for offline cleanup, but lacked voice commands and offline mode like Rambler.

Raji praised Wispr Flow for its ability to drop filler words and turn listed tasks into numbered lists. However, it did not offer unlimited free dictation on Android, unlike Wispr's Pro plan, which costs $15 per month or $12 billed annually.
