Pixel Tag Must Deliver: Expert Weighs In on Google's New Tracker

Rita, a senior writer at Android Police and self-proclaimed Google fan, has extensively tested over 30 Bluetooth trackers from various companies. In this article, she shares her expert opinion on what the upcoming Pixel Tag needs to succeed in the market.

Rita emphasizes that for a tracker to be easily findable when within reach, it requires either Ultra WideBand (UWB) or Bluetooth 6.0 with Channel Sounding. She believes that supporting both technologies is crucial because not every Android phone has UWB, but most have or will have Bluetooth 6.0 with Channel Sounding.

Rita notes that the current competition, such as Moto Tags, are already using UWB and working decently well. She expects Google's Pixel Tag to at least match this standard, otherwise, it would be pointless for Google to enter the market.

Rita also highlights issues with the Find Hub app, stating that it needs to work offline and allow users to find trackers over Bluetooth without a solid signal or cell reception. The app should also provide better tracking of moving objects, she adds.
