Pixel Update Locks Out Users with Buggy Lock Screens

Google's September Pixel update has caused problems for some users, forcing them to factory-reset their phones. Since installing the update on September 15, owners of various Pixel models have reported issues with their lock screens, including PIN and unlock pattern problems.

The bug causes the lock screen to behave erratically, treating the first digit of a PIN as a full entry and responding with an incorrect pin notice. This means users are locked out of their phones even when they know the correct code. The issue is not limited to specific Pixel models, affecting devices across both new and older lines.

One affected owner tried various troubleshooting steps, including restarting the phone, entering Safe Mode, cleaning the display, using a USB mouse, and reinstalling the Android build. However, none of these solutions restored access to the device, and the user eventually had to perform a factory reset, which erased all data on the phone.

Google has not publicly confirmed the issue or provided an official fix. Affected users are advised to check for available backups from another device and contact Google Pixel Support before resorting to a factory reset.
