Pixel Watch 5 Falls Short with Little Hardware Upgrades
The Google Pixel Watch 5 is the latest iteration of the popular smartwatch series. While it retains its stylish design and repairable features, this year's model feels like more of the same with little in terms of hardware upgrades. The watch comes in two sizes, with the smaller model featuring an exclusive color option, Canyon, which matches the Pixel 11 Pro models.
The device's performance is smooth, thanks to its Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen chipset, but some users may find it lacking a new chipset. Battery life is also solid, lasting around 48 hours with typical usage, although this can be improved with the speedy charging feature and the dock introduced last year.
Software is where the Pixel Watch 5 truly shines, with Wear OS 7 offering revamped watch face complications and expanded gestures. Google Health, which replaces Fitbit and Google Fit, is also a notable addition, providing accurate GPS tracking and data collection. However, some users may be disappointed by the limited availability of features such as improved smart replies and Proactive Suggestions, which are only available on Pixel phones.
The device's AI capabilities have received mixed reviews, with some users experiencing frustration with the Gemini voice assistant and limitations in the 'create your own watch face' feature. Overall, while the Pixel Watch 5 is a solid addition to the series, it may not be worth the price increase for some users, who may prefer last year's model at a lower cost.
