Pixel Watch Adds Blood Pressure, Insulin Resistance Tracking
Google is expanding its Pixel Watch's health and safety tools with new features that track blood pressure, insulin resistance, and sleep breathing quality. These additions are part of Google's Health Guardian suite, which includes Breathing Emergency Detection, available in Europe on the Pixel Watch 4 and 5.
The blood pressure trends feature works without a cuff or manual calibration, using passive measurements of pulse and motion patterns over a month to detect persistent higher cardiovascular trends early. It requires at least five consecutive days of data per week.
Insulin resistance trends analyze multi-week physiological data to track shifts in metabolic health without requiring a blood draw. Google needs a minimum of seven days of data in a month for this feature, which uses its largest sensor foundational model pre-trained with over 1 trillion minutes of data from five million opted-in users.
Sleep breathing quality metrics will track overnight breathing changes, providing a daily report and a monthly pattern analysis. Pixel Watch 3, 4, and 5 users can set up these features in the Google Health app starting this week, with free access on those devices and the first trend reports coming in early October.
