Pixel Watch Owners Get New Health Features, Including Blood Pressure Tracking
Google has rolled out new health-tracking features for its Pixel Watch series. The update includes blood pressure and insulin resistance trend reports, as well as a sleep-breathing feature that tracks breathing quality during sleep. These features are available to Pixel Watch 3, 4, and 5 owners and can be accessed through the Google Health app.
The company has pre-trained these features using billions of minutes of raw heart rate and movement data, as well as over 1 trillion minutes of data from 5 million opted-in users. The blood pressure trend feature will detect ongoing changes in your heart health using data collected over several days, while the insulin resistance trend focuses on metabolic health by reviewing physiological data over several weeks.
The sleep-breathing feature tracks breathing quality during sleep and provides a monthly report highlighting any long-term changes or patterns. These features are free for Pixel Watch users and can be used in conjunction with other health-tracking tools. However, Google emphasizes that these features are meant for general wellness and information purposes only and should not replace medical tools.
Pixel Watch 4 and 5 owners in Europe will also receive the Breathing Emergency Detection tool, which can contact emergency services if a serious drop in blood oxygen is detected. This feature is available now to Pixel Watch users, but Fitbit Air owners with a Google Health Premium subscription will have to wait for the release of these features later this year.
