Piyush Goyal seeks deeper US investment in Indian manufacturing and tech
India's Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal is actively engaging with top global companies during his official visit to the U.S., aiming to strengthen corporate ties and attract deeper investment in manufacturing and long-term capital. In New York, Goyal met with executives from IBM, Estée Lauder, Nike, Blackstone, and other major firms to discuss expanding their presence and commitments in India.
Goyal's meeting with IBM Chairman and CEO Arvind Krishna focused on enhancing collaboration in artificial intelligence, cloud infrastructure, quantum computing, and other frontier technologies. The discussions also emphasized leveraging India's talent pool and growing digital adoption to develop scalable global solutions.
In discussions with Estée Lauder and Nike, Goyal explored opportunities for increased manufacturing and sourcing from India. With Nike's leadership, including EVP and COO Venkatesh Alagirisamy, the talks centered on expanding the company's engagement in manufacturing, local sourcing, and the broader sports ecosystem.
Goyal also engaged with Blackstone and Neuberger Berman to discuss deepening investment partnerships in India. He highlighted India's macroeconomic fundamentals and deepening capital markets as opportunities for long-term value creation. Additionally, meetings with global insurers like MetLife and AIA Group focused on India's expanding insurance market and the rising demand for long-term savings and protection.
