Planet Labs Stock Soars on Satellite Surge and Amazon.ia Deal
Planet Labs PBC has seen its stock price surge by 7.93% after it successfully launched its 40th satellite, adding to its total fleet of 718 spacecraft in orbit.
The company's latest achievement was marked by the Transporter-18 mission with SpaceX, where 20 satellites were launched, including Google's Project Suncatcher demo and the Tanager-2 hyperspectral satellite with Carbon Mapper. This milestone highlights Planet Labs' rapid expansion in the Earth observation industry, which is expected to drive growth in revenue.
The company's latest quarter saw a total revenue of $116.1 million, with a gross profit of $65.6 million and a healthy 55.4% gross margin. However, its operating income was at a loss of about $13.5 million, and net income was a loss of $9.4 million.
Planet Labs' long-term debt stands at around $448.3 million but is offset by $415.1 million in cash and $865.4 million when including short-term investments. The company's current ratio of 2.8 gives it room to breathe financially, making it a high-beta growth stock that can trend hard in either direction on news.
