PlusAI and Nvidia Trailers Stolen, Thieves Left with Tons of Sand
Thieves targeted PlusAI and Nvidia's joint venture by stealing two trailers containing simulated loads for AI research. The incident, which occurred on a Thursday morning in Newark, California, was discovered when a top executive at PlusAI received an unexpected congratulatory text message from an acquaintance.
The message claimed that the trailers were seen near the recipient's workplace, but they were actually docked outside PlusAI's warehouse, half a mile away. When police arrived to investigate, they found that the thieves had abandoned the stolen property after breaking open the trailers and releasing 20 tons of sand each.
PlusAI uses simulated loads in its trailers for research and development testing, which explains why the thieves didn't take anything valuable from the vehicles. The company spokesperson confirmed that the tech-enabled truck cabs were parked inside the warehouse and weren't taken.
The case is still under investigation, but it's not clear if any arrests have been made. This incident comes at a time when there has been a rise in theft targeting high-value computer equipment, especially chips and other electronics meant for use in data centers.
