Polish Swimmer Completes Historic 160km Baltic Crossing
Polish swimmer Bartłomiej Kubkowski completed his fifth attempt to cross the Baltic Sea, swimming an impressive 160 km in just 55 hours. This feat helped raise nearly €197,421 for the Cancer Fighters Foundation's fight against cancer.
Kubkowski was well aware of the challenges he faced, having previously attempted this record four times before with limited success. He underwent brutal training sessions that lasted up to a day and a half, including all-night swimming sessions.
As Kubkowski approached the final stretch, he began to experience hallucinations and lost his bearings, asking crew members where he was swimming. However, he quickly informed them of his condition, allowing for intervention and additional meals to power his body.
The support team even threw a bottle of Coca-Cola into the sea, which Kubkowski eagerly picked up and drank from. After completing the swim, he was taken to a local hospital for a full medical examination.
