Proton Expands Easy Switch for Business to Microsoft 365 Amid US Provider Risk Concerns

Proton has expanded its Easy Switch for Business tool to include Microsoft 365, allowing companies to migrate their email, calendars, and contacts to Proton's end-to-end encrypted platform without taking teams offline.

The move comes as security leaders in Europe weigh the risks of dependence on US-based technology providers. According to a recent survey by Proton, 74% of European business leaders are worried that a US provider could cut off their access through a 'kill switch', roughly the same proportion that feared ransomware or cyberattacks.

Proton's Easy Switch for Business tool was first launched in June for Google Workspace and has now been extended to Microsoft 365. The tool allows administrators to choose what data to bring across, connect Proton to their existing provider, set up their domain, select the accounts to migrate, onboard staff, and then retire the old platform.

Proton says many customers begin by running its platform in parallel as a business continuity fallback, one that keeps running through an outage, ransomware attack, or geopolitical disruption. Proton's code is open source and independently audited, so security teams can verify how the encryption works.
