PureCycle Sees Forecast for Recycled Polypropylene Ofttake Play Out in Second Half
PureCycle's forecast for recycled polypropylene offtake is already playing out in the second half of this year, according to CEO Dustin Olson. He attributes this promising momentum to regulatory developments, supply-chain readiness, and improving operational conditions.
Earlier this year, Olson predicted a ramp-up of demand would be weighted toward the second half of 2026. This has come true with PureCycle seeing its forecast become a reality six weeks into the second half of the year.
Regulatory developments such as New Jersey's one-year conditional approval for PureCycle resin to qualify as mandated recycled content have played a significant role in this momentum. The company has also seen increasing certainty over product quality and consistency, which encourages customers to commit. Brands are willing to pay a premium for the value-added service provided by PureCycle, even amid headwinds presented by inexpensive virgin resin.
Procter & Gamble is expanding its adoption of the resin for packaging, with caps for Downy liquid in commercial production and Tide caps scheduled for Q3. The company's dissolution recycling process was granted an exclusive license to PureCycle in 2015.
