Purple Heart Homes Builds Historic Home for Veterans on National Mall
Purple Heart Homes is launching a historic National Mall Veteran Home Build as part of America's 250th anniversary celebration. The seven-day public construction event will take place on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., from Sept. 27 to Oct. 5.
The organization, co-founded by two combat-wounded veterans, has completed over 1,800 projects for veterans nationwide and is marking its largest and most visible undertaking with this build.
The National Mall build is made possible by generous support from The Home Depot Foundation, which is serving as Cornerstone Partner, contributing a $250,000 grant. Other partners include Owens Corning, Fox Corporation, FOX Sports, Cheyenne Industries, Bank of Botetourt and Defense Credit Union Council (DCUC).
'Every day, nearly 33,000 veterans face homelessness in our country,' said Erin Izen, executive director of The Home Depot Foundation. 'This project demonstrates what is possible when national partners come together to honor veterans through permanent supportive housing, volunteer service and innovation.'
