Qatari Royal Family Brings Luxury Jet and Yacht to Mallorca for Rare Solar Eclipse

The Emir of Qatar flew his $400 million Boeing 747-8 from Doha to Mallorca for a rare total solar eclipse. The aircraft, which is used by the state VIP fleet, has a published range of roughly 8,840 nautical miles and can accommodate around 89 passengers and 14 crew.

The Qatar Amiri Flight Boeing 747-8 BBJ arrived in Mallorca on August 10, 2026, just two days before the eclipse. The emir's superyacht, Al Lusail, was also spotted in the area, valued at around $500 million and capable of accommodating up to 36 guests.

The island of Mallorca lies within the path of totality for the eclipse, but the view will be obstructed by buildings on land. The Qatari royal family likely chose to watch from their yacht instead, taking advantage of its mobility and unobstructed position at sea.
