Qualcomm Lands Massive AI Deal with Amazon Worth Up to $60 Billion
Qualcomm has made a significant move into the AI data center market after landing a massive deal with Amazon. The chip company will supply up to $60 billion worth of its AI data center chips to Amazon over time, in addition to granting Amazon warrants worth around $4 billion that will vest with product purchases.
As part of this deal, Qualcomm and Amazon have agreed to collaborate on improving high-performance optical connectivity to support the growing bandwidth demands in AI infrastructure. Qualcomm will also increase its use of Amazon Web Services and Amazon Bedrock infrastructure to reduce chip design cycles.
'As AI demand accelerates, data center infrastructure will require advances in both computing and connectivity to deliver greater performance with more efficiency,' said Cristiano Amon, CEO of Qualcomm. 'Qualcomm is pleased to work with AWS on customized silicon and connectivity solutions, bringing decades of leadership in advanced processing and power-efficient compute, to deliver breakthrough performance and enable the next generation of AI infrastructure.'
Qualcomm's partnership with Amazon is expected to continue for multiple generations of chips for large-scale AI data centers. This deal marks a significant step towards Qualcomm achieving its goal of capturing 5% of the total market in the data center segment, which it estimates has a $1 trillion market opportunity.
