Qualcomm Stock Reverses Course After Initial Patent Licence Sell-Off
Qualcomm's (NASDAQ:QCOM) stock initially plummeted on news of its renewed patent licence agreement with Apple, but ultimately reversed course to close higher.
The deal, which will be effective from April 2027, didn't disclose specific terms, duration or value, creating initial uncertainty among investors.
However, Bernstein's Stacy Rasgon noted that the lack of detail initially caused investors to fear the worst, such as lower royalty rates or a shorter commitment.
As the market digested the news, buyers came back in, reassessing the situation and realizing that the renewal removed a near-term risk of losing Apple as a major customer relationship.
