Qualcomm Stock Slumps Amid Profit-Taking and Industry Headwinds

Qualcomm stock plummeted 5.4% in afternoon trading as profit-taking took hold, following an 18% surge over the prior month. The rapid price appreciation had stretched the stock's valuation, leaving it vulnerable to a positioning flush.

The lack of fresh positive catalysts to justify extending the rally further contributed to the selling pressure. Qualcomm's core smartphone business is also facing structural headwinds, with its share of Apple's latest iPhone launch materially lower than initially estimated at 20%.

The company disclosed that its share would be significantly impacted by Apple's shift to in-house modem technology. Additionally, Samsung's Exynos processor line captured 9% of the global smartphone application processor market in Q2 2026, its highest share since 2024, while Qualcomm's shipments declined year-over-year.

The hawkish repricing of Federal Reserve rate expectations also added pressure to high-multiple technology names. The simultaneous rout in South Korean memory chipmakers on concerns about slowing AI memory expansion further rattled the semiconductor complex.
