Quantum Computers: The Powerhouses That Will Redefine Human Potential
Quantum computing has been touted as one of the most revolutionary technologies in recent years, but its impact is still largely dormant. IBM's senior vice president and director of research Dario Gil explained that not even a million or billion supercomputers connected together could do the calculations of these future machines.
The idea of quantum advantage is difficult to wrap your head around, said Gil, due to the exponential growth in capabilities as more qubits are added. This means that quantum computers could one day achieve things we haven't been able to conceptualize yet.
However, scientists are aware that simply building powerful hardware won't help us achieve anything without defining problems to solve using these future machines. Companies like IBM have been granting businesses access to quantum computers through the cloud for pilot programs and algorithm development.
