Razer Software Guzzles 2GB RAM on Windows 11: A Major Challenge for Microsoft's Memory-Efficiency Goals
Microsoft is striving to make Windows 11 more memory-efficient, but it seems like third-party app developers are not doing their part. A Redditor shared a story about trying to set up RGB lighting on his Razer peripherals, only to find that the combination of Synapse and Chroma software consumed an astonishing 2GB of system memory.
The user had to disable 25 instances of 'RazerAppEngine' to free up enough memory to run another software. This highlights a major issue with third-party apps on Windows 11, where some programs are not optimized for efficient memory use.
Microsoft's native weather app is also a culprit, using 1.6GB RAM - five times more than the equivalent macOS weather app. To make matters worse, the DRAM shortage has forced companies to downgrade to 8GB RAM configurations, making it even harder for users to run these memory-hungry programs.
This is a major challenge for Microsoft as it tries to optimize Windows 11 for better memory efficiency. Unless third-party developers are held accountable and forced to improve their apps' optimization, the journey towards making Windows 11 more memory-efficient will be filled with potholes.
