RCMP Arrest 38 People in Central Alberta Shoplifting Operation
RCMP in central Alberta conducted a three-day shoplifting prevention operation from September 9 to 11, resulting in the arrest of 38 people and laying 52 charges. The operation, which involved RCMP in Red Deer and Blackfalds, aimed to prevent theft and hold those responsible accountable.
The suspects were arrested for various amounts of stolen goods, with some individuals allegedly stealing hundreds of dollars worth of items. On September 9, a 55-year-old man was arrested at Home Depot in Red Deer after being found with $507 worth of stolen items. A 42-year-old woman was also arrested outside Winners in Parkland Mall for allegedly filling a hamper with merchandise without paying.
On September 10, RCMP recognized a 32-year-old man wanted on charges for theft under $5,000 and arrested him at Walmart in north Red Deer. The suspect was released after a Judicial Interim Release hearing and is scheduled to appear in court on September 25. In another incident, a 52-year-old man was arrested for concealing items worth $178.24 and leaving Superstore without paying.
On September 11, RCMP responded to a complaint from Home Depot loss prevention officers about a male who allegedly took tools from the shelf and left the store without paying. A 34-year-old man was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000 and obstructing a peace officer.
