Record-Breaking Ocean Temperatures, Oil Prices Tumble Amid Sanctions Uncertainty
The world's oceans have reached a record-breaking average surface temperature of 70 degrees Fahrenheit on August 22, surpassing the previous record set in March 2024.
Scientists attribute this rise to human-caused climate change, with a powerful Super El Niño exacerbating the issue. Rising ocean temperatures pose significant threats to marine ecosystems and coastal communities, as well as increasing sea levels, extreme weather events, and reducing the ocean's ability to absorb carbon dioxide.
Meanwhile, oil prices have fallen due to investors awaiting a new U.S. sanctions package against Iran. The Trump administration claims these will be its toughest sanctions yet, while Iran vows to withstand the economic pressure and maintain international trade.

Attackers impersonated a CoinDesk executive and used familiar platforms like X, Google Docs, and DocSend to make the scam appear legitimate.
