Regeneron Terminates Antibody Study Amid Unfavorable Benefit-Risk Assessment
Regeneron Pharmaceuticals has terminated its Phase 1/2 study of an investigational anti-inflammatory antibody, REGN7041, due to an unfavorable benefit-risk assessment. The decision was made after a thorough review of a safety event observed in the trial.
The company has confirmed that it conducted an investigation into the event but could not identify its cause. REGN7041 is a monoclonal antibody targeting CD3, a marker found on immune cells that drives inflammation. It was being tested for non-infectious uveitis, an eye disease characterized by inflammation of a layer in the eye.
This discontinuation continues Regeneron's recent string of setbacks, including the failure of its investigational melanoma combo in a Phase 3 trial against Merck's Keytruda. Analysts have been calling for the company to step up dealmaking to beef up its pipeline and make use of its $18 billion cash pile.
