Regulatory Review Hits Boeing as 737 MAX Software Glitch Emerges
A software glitch in the Boeing 737 MAX's cockpit has drawn regulatory attention from US authorities. The defect, which can disable an automated navigation function during a landing following a missed approach, was identified by Boeing and notified to airlines in late August.
The bug emerged after a recent software update and can occur when pilots alter their planned flight path after an aborted approach. In some cases, this leaves pilots flying manually without autopilot functions at low altitude.
Shares of Boeing (NYSE:BA) dropped 3% to $192.98 following the news, extending its year-to-date decline to 11%. GE Aerospace's stock fell 0.7%, while RTX was unchanged.
