Remigromig Matches Ranibizumab in DME Trial
Merck's experimental treatment for diabetic macular edema (DME), Remigromig, has shown promising results in a recent clinical trial. In a study involving 984 patients with DME, Remigromig was found to be as effective as Roche's ranibizumab, the current standard treatment, in improving visual sharpness.
The trial lasted for 52 weeks and tested Remigromig against ranibizumab using a mean change from baseline in a test measuring vision while wearing corrective lenses. The results showed that Remigromig was non-inferior to ranibizumab, which is an anti-VEGF eye injection.
Remigromig works by activating the Wnt pathway, which helps repair the retina's leaky blood-vessel barrier and reduce swelling that blurs vision in patients with DME. If approved, Remigromig would be the first novel mechanism of action for retinal vascular diseases in over two decades.
