Remote Work Reaches New Equilibrium as Pandemic Shifts Forever
The concept of remote work was largely unknown before the pandemic, but it has become a new normal for many industries. With the pandemic forcing organisations to adopt social distancing measures and close some businesses, the shift to remote work was inevitable.
Today, most countries have adopted remote work as a permanent solution, except in the United States where employees can still work from home only under exceptional circumstances. Major companies like Home Depot, Target, Microsoft, 3M, and Intel prefer regular office routines, but a survey by prominent economists suggests that remote work rates are higher now than before the pandemic.
The US has been able to maintain a robust employment market, which gives people bargaining power to choose their jobs. The benefits of working from home include reduced pollution, more time for rest and relaxation, and lower transportation costs. However, isolation, lack of motivation, and frustration are some of the disadvantages of remote work.
