RemotiveLabs Expands Vehicle Virtualization to Google Cloud Horizon
RemotiveLabs is expanding its vehicle virtualization software to Google Cloud’s Horizon platform, an open-source development tool designed for automakers and suppliers. This collaboration allows engineers to test any part of a car’s electrical and electronic architecture virtually, extending Google Cloud’s software-defined vehicle work beyond the cockpit and core compute nodes.
Previously, Google Cloud’s focus was on Android Automotive OS for infotainment systems. However, the lack of a comprehensive model for the rest of the vehicle delayed system-level testing until physical hardware was available. RemotiveLabs addresses this gap with its RemotiveTopology software, which replicates the finished car’s network traffic, including packet encoding and addressing, enabling virtual systems to connect with real hardware.
By holding the vehicle as code in standard version control, OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers, and AI agents can share a single reference, which Google Cloud refers to as a ‘system of systems’. Florian Haubner, Industry Architect Lead at Google Cloud, highlighted the significance of this integration, stating that it allows developers and agents to test the full vehicle virtually long before a physical car exists, accelerating software-defined vehicle programs.
Founded in Malmö in 2020, RemotiveLabs has already gained traction with notable clients such as Volvo Cars, Ford, Horse Powertrain, and Here Technologies. The platform is supported by Arm for end-to-end virtual integration.
