Renton Student's Hair-Themed Artwork Wins Doodle for Google Contest
Kameirah Johnson, an 18-year-old student from Renton, Washington, has taken the top spot in this year's Doodle for Google contest. Her artwork, titled 'Hair Power: The Crown That Grows from Us', features three figures with elaborate hairstyles shaped like crowns.
The composition is inspired by Johnson and her family members, including her mother Simone and sister Kalieyah. It symbolizes the importance of hair as a representation of identity, heritage, and inherited strength.
Johnson's artwork stood out among over 10,000 submissions, earning her a spot among the five finalists announced in April. Her selection as the winner was revealed on the TODAY show in June.
The win comes with a $55,000 college scholarship to support Johnson's next chapter, as well as a $50,000 technology package for Lakeside School. The prize arrives at an opportune time for Johnson, who is preparing to attend New York University this fall.
