Retailers Accelerate Same-Day Shipping Efforts Amid Growing Customer Demand
Major retailers are ramping up their same-day shipping efforts to cater to increasingly demanding customers. Companies like Target, Walmart, and The Home Depot have all reported significant increases in same-day deliveries, with some services offering delivery within hours of ordering.
The Home Depot's Express Delivery service delivers orders in three hours or less, utilizing its network of over 2,000 retail stores. Already, the company is able to deliver more than 65% of orders for in-stock parcels the same or next day, and 55% for bulky items.
Amazon Air has also increased drone delivery sixfold, aiming to have the service in nearly 500 U.S. markets by the end of 2026. The service fulfills orders in as little as 30 minutes.
For retailers with the resources to invest in faster delivery options, it can be a growth opportunity. However, smaller brands may prefer to stick with standard ground shipping timelines to preserve their margins.
