Amazon's Prime Air drone program has expanded significantly in Richardson, Texas. The city authorized operations from a local facility, allowing for deliveries to arrive within 30 minutes, with fees ranging from free to $4.99 depending on the order.
However, residents living under the flight paths are complaining about the noise levels, describing it as sounding like 'flying lawn mowers' that can be heard indoors even with the television on.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) controls airspace and has cleared Amazon for beyond-visual-line-of-sight operations, setting a maximum altitude of 400 feet.
Residents have expressed concerns not only about noise but also privacy, as the drones carry multiple cameras and sensors that can capture images of backyards and potentially use that data for other purposes.
