Rifles, Ammo Seized at NY Home Depot Parking Lot Amid Immigration Concerns
On Friday, police in Nassau County, New York seized multiple rifles, thousands of rounds of ammunition, machetes, knives, and suspected cocaine from a parking lot at Home Depot on Jericho Turnpike.
A routine patrol spotted three men unloading a large wooden crate and transferring the rifles into their vehicles. Authorities say it's unusual for such activity to occur in plain sight, suggesting the individuals may have intentionally sought to be caught.
Following an investigation, all three suspects were arrested. Two of them, Gilberto Rivera Lopez and Rudi W. Rivera Lopez, were later turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement after investigators determined they had entered the country illegally.
The men face various charges including failure to safely store firearms, criminal possession of a controlled substance, loitering, and criminal possession of a weapon.
