Rising Gas Prices Fuel Voter Frustration Ahead of Midterms
Voters across the United States are growing increasingly frustrated with rising gas prices, which have become a major concern ahead of the November midterm elections. The national average for a gallon of gas reached $4.48 on Friday, up roughly 17 cents over the last week and 40 cents in a month.
Quinten Martinez, an Amazon delivery driver from South Texas, said that filling up his tank is becoming a difficult decision, especially when it comes to affording groceries. He criticized President Donald Trump's assertion that higher gas prices are a small price to pay for the war with Iran.
Historically, the party holding the White House has suffered major losses in midterms. Today, Republican candidates at all levels are struggling with the additional burden of Trump's weak approval ratings and an affordability crisis that Trump and his congressional allies had promised to fix.
