Rivera Chooses Administration Over Coaching Role

Cisco Rivera has resigned as head boys basketball coach at Santa Fe High after three seasons. He was set to start his fourth year in November but chose instead to take an administrative position at Zia Behavior School, a part of Santa Fe Public Schools.

Rivera had a record of 58-32 during his tenure and led the team to 10 consecutive appearances in the Class 5A State Tournament. He spent six seasons as an assistant coach under Zack Cole before replacing him when Cole took the head coaching position at Rio Rancho Cleveland.

Rivera's decision comes with the basketball season just two months away from practice, and he said his remaining coaching staff will oversee the program until a new head coach is selected. The school plans to post the job opening on Monday, with an interim basis, giving applicants a chance to apply for the full-time position.
