Riyadh Air Unveils First Indigo Boeing 787-9 Ahead of Delivery
Riyadh Air has unveiled the first images of its indigo-colored Boeing 787-9, which is nearing delivery from Boeing's paint facility in Charleston, South Carolina. The special livery, inspired by spring desert blooms and Arabic calligraphy, complements the airline's standard white design and features the global campaign tagline "The Future Takes Flight." This aircraft marks the tenth addition to Riyadh Air's rapidly expanding fleet, with delivery anticipated soon.
Tony Douglas, CEO of Riyadh Air, expressed pride in seeing the first indigo aircraft emerge, highlighting how the livery reflects a modern, confident Saudi identity. The design was created by PriestmanGoode, a London-based consultancy, which aimed to place the carrier at the forefront of next-generation airlines. The indigo livery was previously showcased on a promotional 787 during aviation events, including the 54th Paris Airshow.
Riyadh Air has already received eight 787-9s, all in the standard white livery with indigo and lavender accents. The first two 787-9s arrived in June 2026, registered as HZ-RXAA and HZ-RXAB. The airline has been expanding its fleet aggressively, recently exercising options for 28 additional 787-9s and firming up orders for six more Airbus A350-1000 jets, bringing its A350 commitment to 31 planes.
