Rockstar Avoids Real-World Brands in GTA VI, No Disney World or SeaWorld
Rockstar Games has set a high bar for its upcoming open-world game, GTA VI, promising the most culturally and aesthetically accurate version of Florida ever put into a video game. However, despite this promise, two iconic landmarks in Florida will not be recreated: Disney World and SeaWorld.
The decision is driven by Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick's statement that 'GTA VI' will not feature real-world brands in any form. Every brand in the game is fictional, created to satirize the originals. This means a literal recreation of Walt Disney World or SeaWorld would be impossible, as these parks have numerous trademarks and copyrights tied to their properties.
While fans have speculated about a potential parodied version of Disney World, such as Fairyland Forest Puzzle, Rockstar has not confirmed anything. The absence of these specific attractions does not mean the game will lack theme park-style entertainment entirely. Leaks suggest that Rockstar may have created its own fictional parks that parody the concept without infringing on actual brands.
Rockstar's decision to avoid real-world trademarks is consistent with the studio's approach throughout the 'Grand Theft Auto' franchise. In GTA V, they parodied Facebook as Lifeinvader and McDonald's as Cluckin' Bell, rather than using their names directly. This allows the game to stay true to its underlying intellectual property and to the audience that has followed the series for decades.
The game is currently set to release in November, and Rockstar has described its vision for Leonida as the most culturally and aesthetically accurate version of Florida it could build. Lead designers have spoken about how they researched Miami and the broader state of Florida to create a world that feels genuinely lived in rather than like a surface-level impression.
