Roma's Pre-Season Troubles Continue with 3-0 Loss to Brighton
Roma suffered their second consecutive defeat in the UK, losing 3-0 to Brighton & Hove Albion in a pre-season friendly match at American Express Stadium on August 8. The Italian club had already fallen to Cardiff City in their previous fixture and now head back home with an underwhelming performance.
The hosts took the lead just ten minutes into the game, courtesy of Georginio Rutter's long-range effort that sailed past Mile Svilar's reach. Roma struggled to mount a meaningful attack throughout the first half, and Brighton made them pay for their lack of creativity in front of goal.
Yasin Ayari doubled the hosts' advantage just before halftime, poking the ball home after a combination of Wesley, El-Aynaoui, Cristante, and Gianluca Mancini failed to clear the danger. The second half saw more of the same from Roma, with Brighton adding their third goal within three minutes of the restart.
Gasperini's team introduced 20 substitutes at full-time, which allowed them to exert greater control over the game but ultimately couldn't prevent a disappointing defeat. This loss marks another setback for Roma as they prepare for the upcoming season.
