Russia Cracks Down on Tech Firms with New Fines

Russia's Tagansky court has issued fines against Google, Telegram, and Pinterest for not complying with Kremlin demands on informational control.

Google was fined 7.6 million rubles ($87,054) for not removing the UK-based chauffeur app Wheely from its Google Play marketplace in Russia.

Telegram was fined 3.8 million rubles ($43,527) for failing to remove 'fake news about a special military operation and extremist content', according to RIA Novosti.

Pinterest Europe Limited was hit with a fine of 10.8 million rubles ($123,709), with 7 million rubles ($80,186) attributed to non-compliance with removing LGBT content.
