The An-2 aircraft has been revived after a decade-long hiatus without its US-made Honeywell engine. The newest VK-1600S turboprop engine will power not only the modernized An-2 but also the all-composite TVS-2DTS aircraft, according to a contract between ODC and the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

The VK-1600S certification comes with a condition to ensure system interaction with the TVS-2DTS. The engine will be used in various small-sized aircraft, including the An-2 and TVS-2DTS.

The TVS-2DTS is an experimental all-composite light multi-purpose aircraft developed by SibNIA as a replacement for the An-2. It made its first flight in 2017 but was built based on the American Honeywell TPE331-12UAN turboprop engine and foreign avionics.

SibNIA has been appointed as the developer of the revived An-2, which will be powered by the VK-1600S engine.
