Ryanair Flight Forced to Return After Engine Failure Dislodges Passenger Window

A Ryanair flight from Thessaloniki in Greece suffered an uncontained engine failure shortly after takeoff on July 10, dislodging a passenger window and partially sucking a man out of the aircraft.

The Boeing 737 was bound for Memmingen in Germany when the incident occurred. The plane declared an emergency as oxygen masks deployed inside the cabin, and debris from the failed engine struck the fuselage, damaging it and breaking the window.

A Greek doctor who treated the injured passenger on the tarmac said that a 61-year-old male passenger was held back by his wife, who gripped his feet to stop him from being pulled entirely out of the plane.
