Salesforce and Google Cloud Bet on Standardized Interoperability

Salesforce and Google Cloud have made a significant move towards interoperability by adopting the Model Context Protocol (MCP) as their primary interoperability layer. This shift marks a departure from proprietary agent silos, signaling that the future of enterprise AI infrastructure is built on standardized, tool-based access.

The adoption of MCP is made possible by Salesforce's Headless 360 architecture, introduced earlier this year at TDX. This architecture exposes every Salesforce capability as an API, MCP tool, or CLI command, effectively dismantling the proprietary wall that previously kept its data locked within its own ecosystem.

When Google Cloud implements this headless architecture, it gains native, standardized access to Salesforce's business context through Gemini Enterprise. According to Kevin Ichhpurani, President of Global Partner Ecosystem at Google Cloud, 'Enterprise AI only pays off when agents can understand a company’s business context and act on it.'
