Salesforce Earnings Boost Valuation Repair in Hong Kong-Listed SaaS Sector
Salesforce's earnings report has allayed market concerns about the impact of generative AI on subscription-based software, driving valuation repair in the Hong Kong-listed SaaS sector. The company's share price jumped over 22% after its Q2 earnings exceeded expectations, with revenue accelerating and guidance increasing.
The results disproved the hypothesis that traditional subscription software would be cannibalized by generative AI, which was a major concern for the industry. Instead, Salesforce demonstrated that 'software + AI' is additive to existing businesses, increasing average revenue per user (ARPU) without reducing paying seats.
AI has shifted from being a cost item to a revenue driver, and this inflection point marks the beginning of valuation repair in the SaaS sector. The company's revenue structure has changed, with income linked to 'the amount of work AI completes for the client,' rather than just the number of clients.
The success of Salesforce's earnings report was mirrored in the Hong Kong market, where Mainland Chinese enterprise software companies are transitioning from traditional delivery models to cloud subscriptions and AI-native products. Maifushi (2556) and Kingdee International (268) are two such examples, with their revenue growth driven by their AI businesses.
Kingsoft Corporation (3888) also benefited from the trend, but its pathway and purity of benefit were distinctly different, as it was dragged down by its gaming business. The company's office software and services segment saw a 25% year-over-year increase in revenue, accounting for approximately 68% of quarterly revenue.
