Salesforce Exceeds Expectations as Slack Drives Growth
Salesforce's second-quarter performance has exceeded expectations, according to Deputy CFO and Head of Finance Mike Spencer. He attributed this success to several quarters of execution against the company's strategy, including its goal of returning to faster organic growth in the second half of the fiscal year.
Spencer highlighted the importance of current remaining performance obligations and net-new annual contract value (AOV) bookings as key indicators of momentum. The company has seen strong double-digit growth for several consecutive quarters from Slack, which has become an increasingly important element of Salesforce's AI and product strategy.
Salesforce is also investing aggressively in AI, including R&D, talent, technology, and acquisitions. While AI spending has been broadly neutral to the company's business over the past 12-15 months, Spencer expects it to become a tailwind as enterprises mature their strategies and deploy more AI products in production.
The company is planning to showcase its AI capabilities at Dreamforce, featuring external technology leaders including Anthropic's Dario Amodei, OpenAI's Sam Altman, and NVIDIA's Jensen Huang. Salesforce has outlined a fiscal 2030 framework targeting a 'Rule of 50', combining revenue growth and margin performance.
