Salesforce Global Outage Hits Hundreds of Customers Worldwide
Salesforce customers worldwide faced severe delays and errors due to a major service outage on September 16. The disruption affected hundreds of instances across several countries, including the US, Japan, India, the UK, France, and Germany.
The issue began at around 9:30 BST (8:30 UTC) with customer requests getting stuck while waiting for a response from an internal login service, which was using up available server resources. This meant that some customers were unable to create support cases during the outage.
Salesforce initially reported increased load on a core system component as the key issue, saying it had reduced its ability to process customer requests. The company deployed a fix across its wider system once testing showed it was working and started preparing to deploy it across all affected instances.
By 12:27 BST (11:27 UTC), Salesforce said the fix was being rolled out across its entire affected fleet, with customers beginning to see services return to normal. The outage occurred at a critical time for the company, coinciding with the start of its annual Dreamforce conference in San Francisco.
