Salesforce Hands AI Layer a Fork as Agentic Interfaces Rewrite Enterprise Software
Salesforce has taken a significant step in embracing artificial intelligence (AI) by integrating its customer relationship management (CRM) platform directly into the AI assistant Claude. The expanded partnership between Salesforce and Anthropic, makers of Claude, allows users to interact with Salesforce's CRM through natural language, without ever opening the traditional user interface.
The integration, called 'Salesforce in Claude', brings 37 pre-built sales skills to the AI platform, enabling users to perform tasks such as reviewing pipelines, updating records, and triggering governed actions. This is a major shift for Salesforce, which has traditionally relied on its human-facing UI to drive user engagement.
The integration uses Amazon Bedrock as the technical plumbing, with Claude operating inside Salesforce's virtual private cloud. Anthropic's Model Context Protocol handles bidirectional context sharing, making it possible for regulated industries to adopt the technology.
Salesforce is investing heavily in this partnership, spending around $300 million on Anthropic tokens this year, on top of an existing equity stake valued at roughly $5 billion.
