Salesforce Organizations Need a Center of Excellence to Manage Technical Debt
As Salesforce organizations grow, they often accumulate technical debt that hinders user experience and adoption. This tech debt can be attributed to unused fields, installed applications no longer in use, or poorly managed data across the enterprise.
A Center of Excellence (CoE) is a decision-making structure designed to address these issues by prioritizing incoming change requests, managing governance, and ensuring architectural standards are followed. The CoE also oversees data strategy, including defining required fields, duplicate management, and data across multiple orgs or global implementations.
To establish a CoE, organizations must consider assigning roles that can approve changes, own the business backlog and priorities, and decide when tech debt is resolved. This includes having an executive sponsor who clears organizational blockers and ensures the CoE's standing meeting isn't cancelled.
