Salesforce Transforms Slack into an 'AI Work Operating System'
Salesforce has unveiled its strategy to transform Slack into an AI work operating system, where humans and AI agents collaborate in public channels. According to Rob Seaman, Salesforce Senior Vice President and head of Slack, Slack is the gateway into Salesforce and the new work operating system for the AI era.
The company aims to move away from employees using AI one-on-one toward building a 'multiplayer AI' environment within Slack, where multiple team members share work processes and outcomes. This direction was announced at Dreamforce 2026, with Seaman emphasizing that Slack has become the fastest-growing product in Salesforce's major portfolio.
Slack's key strength lies in the 'conversational context' accumulated from internal discussions and decision-making. By combining this conversational context with AI, companies can gain a competitive edge over their competitors. Existing AI tools are limited by their 'single-player' approach, where individuals chat one-on-one with AI, leaving experience and know-how with individual employees.
The company also showcased an expanded role for Slackbot, which is now designed to understand conversations between employees, execute actual work, and call upon the appropriate AI agents for specific tasks. It can also produce documents, presentations, videos, and other materials based on enterprise data.
