Salix City Council Deliberates Data Center Agreement with Google
The Salix City Council discussed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Google regarding the construction of a data center on 900 acres in Salix, Iowa. The MOU states that Google will pay for independent advisors to study the data center's impact, up to $150,000, and must pay invoices within 30 days.
The city council asked questions about the length of the agreement, which can be extended according to Google representative Trent Fellers and Salix City Council attorney Nathan Overberg. They also inquired if current lawsuits would affect the MOU, with Overberg assuring them that they do not impact the agreement.
Mayor Kevin Nelson stated that the city council is taking their time to make sure it's a good fit for Salix and wants to ensure that their ordinances are in place before approving anything. He also mentioned that Google has offered to bring council members and residents on a tour of its data center in Papillion, Nebraska.
