Samsung Ditches OneDrive for Google in Cloud Syncing Partnership

Samsung has replaced OneDrive as its cloud syncing partner for the Samsung Gallery app. This change affects users worldwide, particularly those who rely on cloud syncing for their photo and video libraries.

The setup process is straightforward: ensure you have both Galaxy version 15.9.01.7 or newer and Gallery Cloud Sync installed. You'll see a banner at the top of the Gallery app to get started. Authenticate with your Google account, choose which folders to sync, and decide whether to enable mobile data syncing.

However, there's a catch: if you're syncing photos from one Galaxy device to another, as long as Gallery Cloud Sync is set up on both, they'll work seamlessly. But if you cross ecosystems or use a non-Galaxy phone as a camera phone, your images won't sync through Gallery Cloud Sync unless shared over to the Galaxy device.

This limitation might be disappointing for users who want to backup photos from an old phone on their computer or have all memories in a native One UI application. Nevertheless, this feature is a plus for the Samsung ecosystem and provides some benefits for those within it.
