Samsung Ditches OneDrive for Google Photos in Galaxy App
Samsung has made significant changes to its Galaxy app, shifting from Microsoft's OneDrive cloud services to Google Photos. The move is set to affect millions of Samsung users worldwide, with the company advising them to migrate their photos and videos to Google Photos by September 30, 2026.
The change comes after Samsung released version 15.9.01.7 of its Gallery app, which now includes a 'Sync photos and videos' option in the settings menu. Users can link their personal Google account to sync their content directly with Google's cloud infrastructure.
This means that existing links between Samsung Gallery and OneDrive will be discontinued, and users have until September 30 to transfer their files. To avoid data loss, users are advised to download their photos and videos from OneDrive and upload them to Google Photos via the app or web interface.
The shift to Google Photos also brings some limitations, including a shared 15GB free tier across Gmail, Drive, and Photos. Heavy photo/video users may need to consider a paid Google One plan, which starts at $1.99/month for 100 GB of storage.
